About DataCore VASA Provider
The DataCore SANsymphony Software-defined Storage Platform has been integrated with the virtualization world of VMware vSphere™ datacenter platform and vCenter™ management by providing a VASA Provider (a set of application programming interfaces (API) that integrates storage arrays with vSphere vCenter and allows the capabilities to be known) that has a vSphere Aware Storage API for DataCore SANsymphony software.
The DataCore VASA Provider (also referred to as DataCore SANsymphony Provider) allows administrators to configure DataCore SANsymphony storage resources as storage containers for virtual machines (VM) and enables storage policy-based management (SPBM) of VMs—all from the VMware vSphere Web Client.
Custom storage policies, based on storage performance characteristics, are created and defined in the VMware vSphere Web Client to help Virtual Infrastructure (VI) administrators overcome storage provisioning challenges. The DataCore VASA Provider enables storage policy-based management (SPBM) by advertising the capabilities of the datastores to the vCenter. The administrator selects the desired storage policy and can then choose from a list of compatible storage containers when a VM is deployed. In turn, a DataCore SANsymphony virtual volume (vVol) virtual disk (vDisk) is automatically created from compatible pools making the VM hard disk policy compliant, thus extending VM-level management to the storage layer.
